Welcome to Penpages
the FREE blog tool that is quick, simple and fun to use.
Penpages is more than a blog – it's an instant website designed to be installed on your own website server space or intranet. Instructions are simple, features are simple. You can use Penpages with the supplied set of design templates and category icons or customise Penpages with your own banner and images. Choose a name for your blog, create a password and start blogging. It's so easy.
What you see is what you get
Take a look at the list of links in the left column. Each of the bold links are categories created using PENpages. Adding categories and entries is so easy... explore our "How" categories to learn more.
PENpages has two separate areas: Blog pages, like these, that anyone can visit; and Admin pages that can only be accessed with a username and password set by you.
The Admin pages allow you to:
- Create as many categories as you want
- Add a description or introduction to your category that appears on the category index page
- Easily apply a different design style (colour theme) and picture to each category
- Add as many entries in each category as you desire (type or cut and paste the text you want to display)
- Switch on or off the visitor comment option for each entry, on a page-by-page basis
- Add, edit or delete blog categories, entries, and comments at any time
- Set your own dates
Other admin features let you choose how many categories, entries, and comments are displayed per page. You can also upload additional category themes and images to choose from.
Who is PENpages for?
PENpages was designed for lightweight "would-be" web-hackers - those with a bent for making it themselves because YOU already know a little bit of HTML and CSS. You have looked at sophisticated blog tools such as WordPress and blog sites such as Blogger and YOU feel compromised by the way they seem to cater for those with advanced skills on the one hand, or on the other, presume you're a total newbie who knows nothing about coding HTML.
PHP skills are optional
IF you want a blog tool that offers the simple yet functional features described above AND you want control of the database on your own server (or hosted server) THEN consider PENpages - especially if you don't give a damn about learning PHP - you just want this blog up and running.
However, if you aren't afraid to have a fiddle and you want to learn more about PHP as you go, then you will find the code in PENpages easy to customise. The PHP code includes plenty of comments to guide you.
Support and other services
PENpages is FREE to download and comes with basic instructions for installation and configuration. The latest version is 1.2 as you see here reflected on our website. This site provides additional basic instruction on using and enhancing PENpages with links to a community support forum. We also offer fee-for-service consulting to install, configure and customise PENpages for your internet or intranet requirements. Enquiries welcome.
