Editing and styling blog entries

The blog entry process is fairly easy if you don't mind plain text. Personally I do. Text needs to be simple and easy to read.
Is it reasonable to expect users to read the guidelines to learn some simple HTML commands that can be applied to text – BOLD, ITALIC and other simple styles (CSS supplied with Penpages).
The guidelines also explain how to add images.
